Ayaan Hirsi Ali article

Article in the LA Times by Ayann Hirsi Ali, Women and 'gendercide'.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is pretty amazing - just look at her bio on Wikipedia. She was thrust into the spotlight when she wrote the script and voice over for the film Submission, directed by the late Theo Van Gogh. I have only seen parts of the film, never the whole thing though. Van Gogh was killed in 2004 and a letter was pinned to his chest, containing amongst other things a death threat to Hirsi Ali for her involvement in the film. However, Hirsi Ali has been recieving death threats since before Submission was made. She is extremely critical of Islam, notably women's position within it and subsequently, she has been under police protection for several years, going in and out of hiding. While it may be argued that the reactions to Hirsi Ali are purely based on her critiques of Islam, I think it also is due to the fact that she is very focused on women's position within Islam.
