A Disturbing Trend Part 2

I agree that these books are incredibly depressing. What I find so sad is that these books aim to be aspirational, not inspiring or merely interesting. When reading Jane Austen I didn't necessarily want to be the characters and I think that these books are part of the trend of teaching young girls that they will never be good enough, since the aim of these books is not to provide an alternative world not just/only a desirable one.
