Shawanna Nelson had a LEGITIMATE case in protecting her RIGHTS as a prison inmate in the state of Arkansas! MY GOD, not ONLY did they SHACKLE her feet toether during labor, but they ONLY gave her TYLENOL for her pain!!!!!!!!!!!
One would think that they would have given her a decent EPIDURAL as well as intrvanous medications if she would have been vio;ent or agitated!
I live in the state of Texas which is NOTORIOUS for their ill treatment of individuals in its prisons---so I can just IMAGINE the HORRORS that an inmate goes through giving birth............
I am for the use of soft restraints before and after delivery, but ONLY if the if the woman is aviolent, self-destructive, or if she is an escape risk. These soft restraitns should NOT be used during delivery UNLESS DIRELY NECESSARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The treatment of not only female, but male and juvenile jail and prison inmates in this country is APPALLING, and the view of those inmates by the American public is EUQALLY as appalling as well!!!!!!!
We tell our children this a good man because HE is a pillar of the community and this is a BAD man because HE murdered somebody, committed a terrorist act or some other crime whether LARGE or SAMLL!!!
Our television networks are FILLED with detective and courtroom dramas that DEGRADE these individuals in EVERY sense of the word!!
In reality on the streets, MUCH of our police treat these individuals VERY SHABBILY, and in our courtrooms MANY prosecuting attorneys give them a DIFFICULT time as well!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is HIGH TIME we Americans give these poor souls a break by CARING about their well being while they are incarcerated!!! There NEEDS to be an EXTENSIVE dialogue between And as for the five percent of female inmates giving birth in the nation's prisons and hospitals---CHILDBIRTH IS SACRED!!! And their delivery of these PRECIOUS children as well as ALL OTHER medical and surgical procedures NEEDS to be honored with as MUCH care and sensitivity as any other human being in this country!!! That way there is no undue physical and/or emotional trauma before, during, or after the baby is born either to the motherOR her child!
